Today’s Stock Market

Yesterday major US indices closed mostly higher with the S&P 500 crossing over 6,500 for the first time. This morning, I took the bus into the city with three other poor souls which suggests attendance will be pretty light heading into the holiday weekend. Today is the final trading day of the month. Seasonally August has been a somewhat difficult month, but US markets have bucked that trend with the S&P 500 up >2.5% and the Russell 2K up >7.5% coming into today’s session. The seasonality headwind does tend to get stronger in September which is the only month with a negative return profile over the last 50 years.
