In 2023, the NYSE convened icons and disruptors from its home at the center of the U.S. capital markets, helping them raise capital to change the world. From world leaders to R&B legends, from sandal footbeds to payment technology, here is a look back at the year that was.

Going public is an effective solution to meet those needs. The NYSE’s market model provides important benefits to companies entering the public markets for the first time. Those same benefits continue in perpetuity spanning a company’s entire journey as a public entity.

What makes our model different? On the NYSE trading floor, each listed stock has a human trader dedicated to overseeing its activity from the Opening Bell to the closing auction. These individual “market makers” can intervene at critical moments, such as managing the first trade of a new IPO. This brings lower volatility and smoother trading than would be possible otherwise, resulting in real cost savings for our listed companies and their investors.

The meaning of NYSE-Listed

Cava (NYSE: CAVA) began with a mission to bring heart, health and humanity to food. They brought that mission to Wall Street on Listing Day, transforming the space in front of the NYSE into a Mediterranean oasis that invited everyone to take a seat at the table. Cava’s creativity shined as they welcomed employees, guests and passersby with a taste of newly released menu items. With their dedication to the belief that food can be a unifier, we are proud Cava chose to be NYSE-listed.

In terms of environmental impact, companies in the electric vehicles sector like ChargePoint (NYSE: CHPT), Volta (NYSE: VLTA) and Lightning eMotors (NYSE: ZEV) made their public debuts.

Ginkgo Bioworks (NYSE: DNA) has a lofty goal — to program cells to make everything from food to materials to therapeutics. Co-founder and CEO Dr. Jason Kelly share his experience bringing the company public. Toast (NYSE: TOST) is on a mission to enrich the food experience for all, by empowering over 40,000 restaurants to do what they love. Meanwhile, On Running (NYSE: ONON) began with three friends and one mission: one revolutionary idea that fans call "running on clouds."

Tools & Transparency

Telling a cohesive ESG story to stakeholders and understanding best practices around disclosures are top-of-mind for the NYSE community. Sustainability and efforts to advance workplace diversity are not new ideas. In fact, the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment were launched at the NYSE in 2006.

We’re committed to providing resources and platforms for listed companies. Creating a dialogue between issuers and investors to help build more sustainable companies that deliver long-term benefits for all stakeholders. As ESG investing becomes more mainstream, and stakeholders increasingly focus on ESG performance, more companies will benefit from demonstrating how they consider these issues.
