The council is designed to help shape the future of sustainability decision making as well as ensure we evolve our NYSE offerings to best meet your needs. With your participation, this new council will research and publicize best practices in sustainability across industries and offer valuable networking among members. Mindful of your time, we expect to convene in person twice per year, with the potential for occasional virtual meetings in the interim.
We plan to hold our inaugural council meeting on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the NYSE building in Lower Manhattan. We have an exciting and informative program planned.
Of primary interest to our council is likely the sweeping new rule proposed by the Securities and Exchange Commission requiring U.S.-listed companies to disclose a range of climate-related risks and greenhouse gas emissions. To provide background and analysis of the implications the SEC’s proposal, we have arranged a comprehensive briefing by Joseph Hall, partner with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell.
Further, we’ll host a discussion with William Ultan of Morrow Sodali on the 2022 shareholder proposal season and the evolution of investor interest in social and environmental proposals.
During our inaugural meeting, we also will hold moderated, unstructured sessions designed to bring all our SAC members’ voices into the conversation and help us set priorities for the NYSE Sustainability Advisory Council going forward.
Following the main program, council members are invited to join me on the Trading Floor to watch Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, ring the NYSE Closing Bell. For the first time this year, McLaren is entering the new Extreme E racing series with Tanner Foust and Emma Gilmour as drivers. Extreme E is the world’s first sport built out of concern for the climate crisis. The all-electric off-road rally series, which features male and female driving teams, is committed to having a net-zero carbon footprint as it highlights remote environments under threat of climate change.
Mr. Brown, one of the stars of the Netflix Formula 1 series “Drive to Survive,” will be joined on the NYSE bell podium by Mr. Foust and Leena Gade, McLaren’s first female race engineer. A cocktail reception and dinner will follow.
I sincerely hope you will be able to join us for this inaugural event, and I look forward to working with you on our NYSE Sustainability Advisory Council.
