One of the smallest trading ranges this year for the S&P 500 yesterday was probably due to everyone saving their strength to push through the onslaught of economic data today plus Walmart earnings. In general the data was mixed and sloppy but the end result is equites are modestly higher right now and yields are sharply lower. The S&P 500 is up 0.4% while the equal-weight is up 0.8%. The Russell 2000 is trailing slightly but up 0.4%. The S&P near the highs of the day and back above 5900. Treasury yields are sharply lower with 2-10yr down about 10bp, with a negative PPI print likely influencing lower inflation expectations.
