Today is the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Buttonwood Agreement the document serving as the basis for the New York Stock Exchange. Over the last 200+ years the NYSE has been at the cutting edge of technology and innovation. Check out this video to see the evolution.
There may be no more fitting way for the exchange to celebrate its birthday than for the Dow Jones Industrial Average, one of the oldest stock indices, to close at a record milestone of 40k for the first time. A win by the New York Knicks tonight would also be pretty good following the heroics of the New York Rangers last night. In watching the end of that game and the above video it helped to set a theme for today’s Recap. How quickly things change.
