Yesterday for the third consecutive session US equity markets opened higher only to end in the red. The S&P 500 ended the session ~0.6% bringing WTD losses to 2% and got within a couple of points of the closely watched 5k level which would represent a 5% pullback from the all-time high. The weakness was most pronounced within tech namely semi/semi-equipment stocks following the ASML result as the ICE Semiconductor index closed lower by 3% and is now lower by >10% from the highs hit early in March. Once again S&P futures are looking modestly higher ahead of the open currently trading ~0.2% above fair-value though the bounce is a bit more tepid than the previous few sessions. It remains reasonably quiet on the macro front with the focus continuing to shift to earnings.

When Wednesday expirations were added to five ETFs1 in November 2023, short-dated trading has gained market share in all five of them. The industry has been discussing the reasons behind the short-dated trading phenomenon and debating whether additional expirations should be considered for single stocks.
