Earlier this week, we were thrilled to host Shopify and the winning companies from the 2017 Build a BIGGER Business competition. This was an exciting competition for emerging growth businesses to scale from annual revenues of roughly $1 million to $50 million or more.

Entrepreneurs and business leaders from the winning companies rang our Opening Bell®, saw their branding displayed on the façade of the iconic NYSE building, and took part in mentoring sessions with top business minds including Shark Tank’s Daymond John, Cheddar TV’s Jon Steinberg, and NYSE’s own president, Tom Farley.

Following the event, the winning teams were off for a 5-day trip to Fiji, featuring additional mentoring and business development sessions from the likes of Tony Robbins, Tim Ferris, Debbie Sterling and Marie Forleo.

Shopify’s Build a BIGGER Business judged companies on various sales metrics including total gross gain and percentage gain, as well as other qualitative factors like best marketing and scale strategy and fan culture and disruption capacity. The competition was a global affair, with thousands of entrants from more than 70 countries across a variety of industries.

As an advocate of entrepreneurship and innovation, the NYSE was proud to host Shopify’s inaugural event, and we look forward to watching these businesses grow and create change.

A remarkable entrepreneurial story in its own right, Shopify [NYSE: SHOP] is a leading cloud commerce platform for small and mid-sized businesses, headquartered in Ottawa, Canada.
