NYSE Updates

NYSE and Intrinsic Exchange Group Partner to Launch a New Asset Class to Power a Sustainable Future

The NYSE recently announced that it’s working with Intrinsic Exchange Group (IEG) to jointly develop Natural Asset Companies, a new class of publicly traded assets that hold the rights to ecosystem services produced by natural, working or hybrid lands. By listing and trading on the NYSE, these Natural Asset Companies will convert nature’s intrinsic value -- think biodiversity, clean water, carbon sequestration -- into financial capital that will then fund the preservation and transformation of these lands.

NYSE President Stacey Cunningham said about the announcement: “With the introduction of Natural Asset Companies, the NYSE plans to provide investors an innovative mechanism to financially support the sustainability initiatives they deem critical to our future. Our work with Intrinsic Exchange Group is another example of the NYSE tapping into our community to drive meaningful progress on ESG issues with a solutions-based approach.”

NYSE Arca is First Exchange to Receive Full Custom Basket Approval for Semi-Transparent ETFs

On September 24, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved an NYSE Arca rule change that allows for the creation and redemption of shares in return for custom baskets of securities consistent with a fund’s exemptive relief. For asset managers, this further aligns the processes and procedures for semi-transparent active ETFs with fully transparent ETFs listed under SEC Rule 6c-11.This significant advance for active ETFs now brings the full benefits of the ETF wrapper, including higher tax efficiency and reduced costs, to proxy-based ETFs, including the NYSE Active Proxy Structure.

Active ETFs Keep Momentum in Q3

After surpassing the $250 billion AUM milestone earlier this year, active ETFs have maintained their growth momentum as more asset managers explore the benefits of the ETF wrapper. The third quarter rounded out with 207 active ETF launches year-to-date (YTD) and $276 billion in AUM. There are 43 new ETF issuers in the active ETF market, with 19 firms entering the landscape just in Q3 alone.

Active, semi-transparent ETFs have climbed to $2 billion in AUM across 41 funds, doubling the assets managed in just under 10 months! We’re seeing continued interest and excitement about the NYSE Active Proxy Structure, with Ruane, Cunniff & Goldfarb filing with the SEC in September for an ETF using the NYSE model. As the Home of Active ETFs, we support listing and trading for all of the semi-transparent methodologies and have welcomed launches across all five approved structures over the past year.
