Connecting to Our Markets



The ArcaDirect API is designed for clients that would like the fastest order entry method available for both equities and options on NYSE Arca. The ArcaDirect API does not require all of the functionality that the NYSE Arca FIX host provides. The advantages of using the API to enter orders into the NYSE Arca include:

  1. Smaller incoming and outgoing messages than standard FIX messages. Because of the smaller message size, the ArcaDirect API interface will require much less bandwidth than an NYSE Arca FIX interface.
  2. Very little message translation is required because it is written in NYSE Arca’s internal protocol. Our FIX host is required to translate FIX messages into internal API messages prior to delivering them to the exchange platform. The fact that this translation is not required to translate API messages saves processing time.

NOTE: The above ArcaDirect API Specification 3.2 is a completely seperate version specifically for clients requesting access to NYSE AMEX via ArcaDirect. Clients will not be able to access NYSE AMEX through the existing 2.0 and 3.1 versions. 

With the smaller message size, some equity order types are not available with the ArcaDirect API:

  1. Timed orders

Some order types are only available through verbose message format found in ArcaDirect API version 3 or above:

  1. Pegged orders
  2. Discretionary orders
  3. Primary Orders

All other functionality is available.

Certifying your API applications
Currently the certification process for the ArcaDirect API is manual. To schedule a test please call the Connectivity Help Desk 888-689-7739 or email connectivity@nyx.com. A representative will provide you with a test script and walk you through the certification process. The API certification test suite using our automated test tool will be available in the coming months.
