NYSE Euronext Business Summary for October 2007
  • Second Busiest Month Ever for European Cash Markets: Vol. Up 61.5% y-o-y
  • Busiest October Ever for European Derivatives Vol., Up 34.5% y-o-y, and New Annual Volume Record with 799 Million Contracts Already Traded This Year

Nov. 5, 2007  – NYSE Euronext (NYSE Euronext: NYX) reported strong transaction volumes in U.S.  and European trading operations for October 2007, highlighted by record activity on Liffe and NYSE Arca Options.

Average daily volumes of 2.7 billion shares handled[1] on NYSE Group in October 2007 resulted in year-over-year gains of 5.9% while 30.4 million transactions[2] were recorded on Euronext cash markets during the month, up 61.5% year-over-year. Liffe registered its busiest October ever, with trading up 34.5% from a year-ago, and topping last year’s volume recorded for the full year. Total volume for equity options trading on NYSE Arca Options reached record levels increasing 67.8% year-over-year. Average daily volume in October improved by 110.0% year-over-year, which included October’s new record of 1.66 million contracts traded.

Cash Products

Euronext

  • Euronext’s cash markets registered their second busiest month ever with 30.4 million transactions completed in October 2007, up 61.5% from the same month last year.

  • Since the beginning of the year, more than 266 million cash transactions were registered on Euronext, up 46.2% from the same period last year, representing a record average daily volume of over 1.2 million transactions.

  • Euronext reported 29.2 million equities transactions in October 2007, up 62.6% year-on-year. This brought the year-to-date total number of transactions to 255 million, up 46.8% versus the same period last year.

  • Year-on-year transactions on Euronext were up 196.7% for ETFs and up 34.7% for Structured Products, which includes warrants and certificates.

NYSE Group

  • NYSE Group’s exchanges reported 2.7 billion shares handled per day in October, up 5.9% year-over-year. Average daily handled volume in 2007 is up 14.4% year-to-date.

  • NYSE Group’s operations in NYSE-listed securities reported 2.0 billion shares handled per day, up 7.9% from the same month last year with total volume in 2007 up 18.6% year-to-date.

  • NYSE Group’s operations in ETF trading reported 289 million shares handled daily, up 70.5% from the same period last year with total volume in 2007 up 58.8% year-to-date. NYSE Arca is the first electronic stock exchange to offer investors the benefits and stability of a dedicated liquidity provider in the form of a Lead Market Maker for each primary listed ETF, with listings that represent 67% of the total assets under management and 42% of ETF trading volume for all U.S. ETFs year-to-date.


Derivatives Products

Liffe

  • Liffe, NYSE Euronext’s leading futures and options business, had its busiest October ever, with more than 74 million futures and option contracts traded, up 34.5% year-on-year.

  • In total, Liffe has traded a record number of contracts for the fourth consecutive year. 799 million futures and options contracts have already been traded in 2007, beating the 2006 annual record volume of 730 million contracts. Total volume year-to-date (January-end October) is up 29.2% compared to 2006.

  • Year-to-date volumes have grown across the entire product range. Interest rate products have traded 441 million contracts year-to-date, up 26.9% on 2006. Equity products have traded 347 million contracts so far this year, up 32.4% on 2006. Commodity products have traded 10.5 million contracts, up 28.9% on 2006.

  • Bclear has its busiest year ever processing over 96 million contracts since the beginning of the year compared to the 51 million traded for full year 2006. Year-on-year Bclear is up 165.2% on 2006.

  • Universal Stock Futures traded record volumes of 58 million since the beginning of the year compared to a total annual volume of 29 million in 2006.

NYSE Arca Options

  • NYSE Arca reported a new all-time record of 1.66 million equity options contracts executed daily on average in October, up 110% from the same month last year. Over 258 million equity options contracts have traded since the beginning of the year, up 67.8% year-to-date.

  • With 38.2 million total contracts traded in October, a 21.5% increase from the previous record of 31.4 million contracts set in August 2007, NYSE Arca Options also achieved a new record in overall share of trading, capturing 14.2% of all equity options contracts traded, a 4.2% increase year-over-year.

  • In October, 17.6 million contracts were traded on NYSE Arca Options in the newly-expanded SEC options penny pilot, with 15.8 million, or 90% traded electronically. Share of trading in the 35 penny pilot issues also set a record in October at 17.0% of industry volumes, ranking NYSE Arca third among all U.S. options exchanges.

Listings

Euronext

  • Eleven IPOs were added on Euronext’s markets in October 2007, with €3.4/$4.9 billion raised.

  • This brings the total number of IPOs on Euronext since the beginning of the year to a record 118, as compared to 106 during the same period in 2006, with €9.3/$13.4 billion raised in connection with new listings.

  • Additionally, four new ETFs were listed on NextTrack in October, bringing the total number of new ETF listings since the beginning of the year to 61.

NYSE Group

  • October produced a total of 33 new listings on NYSE Group markets, including 16 operating companies on the NYSE, 2 operating companies on NYSE Arca, and 15 Exchange Traded products. Of the 15 Exchange Traded products, 6 were Exchange Traded Funds and 9 were Exchange Traded Notes.

  • There were 11 IPOs in October, including 4 U.S. domestic operating companies and 5 non-US companies, as well as 2 IPOs on NYSE Arca.

  • The 4 U.S. domestic operating companies that conducted IPOs on NYSE Group markets in October raised a total of €1.0/$1.5 billion in IPO proceeds in connection with listing, and 5 non-U.S. companies raised €605.6/$876.2 million in connection with listing. Including offerings on NYSE Arca and Exchange Traded products, a total of €1.8/$2.6 billion in IPO proceeds was raised in connection with listing on NYSE Group markets in October 2007.

  • Separate, and in addition to the 33 new listings already highlighted, 3 new structured products joined the NYSE in October 2007.
