The NYSE Group-Operation HOPE project will be part of NYSE Group’s Community Volunteer program, in which the company enables groups of employees to take a day away from their jobs to volunteer for a community organization. The volunteer program was initiated by the NYSE Diversity Council with the support of CEO John A. Thain. In this instance, employees later this month – Financial Literacy Month – will visit a school and teach from a curriculum that covers the basics of banking, investments, credit and other personal-finance subjects. A field trip by the students to the New York Stock Exchange also is planned. “The strength of our economy depends on the participation of a financially literate public, and we are delighted with the opportunity to help build that literacy,” said NYSE Group CEO John A. Thain. “Particularly in economically disadvantaged areas, it is critical to give students the tools they need to make informed decisions about their personal finances, as well as how to manage the opportunities and risks of the world of investment.” Please click here for more information about the NYSE Community Volunteers program and the NYSE Foundation. |
