NYSE Composite Index Sets New Closing High

NEW YORK, August 2, 2005 –The New York Stock Exchange Composite Index ® (NYA) closed at a new high of 7556.59. The previous closing high for the NYSE was 7516.78 on July 28, 2005.

Background:

Reintroduced in 2003 with a new methodology and recalculated base value of 5,000, the NYA outperformed all major indices in 2004.

The NYA is designed to measure the performance of all common stocks, ADRs, REITs and tracking stocks listed on the NYSE.
