New York Stock Exchange Issues Monthly Short Interest Report
NEW YORK July 21, 2005 - The New York Stock Exchange today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of July 15, 2005 reflecting transactions through July 12.

Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest decreased to 8,356,999,243 shares on July 15 from 8,406,439,557 shares on June 15. 

The short interest on July 15 was equal to 2.3 percent of the total shares outstanding on the Exchange.

The short interest in warrants as of July 15 amounted to 65,224 warrants, compared with 53,621 the previous month.

As of the settlement date, there were 3,622 stocks and 5 warrants available for trading on the Exchange.  Of these, 2,924 issues had either a short position of at least 5,000 shares or a change of shares since the last monthly report.   A list of these issues, showing their current short positions and average daily volume between the trade dates, covered by this report, is attached.

A short sale is any sale of a security that the seller does not own, or any sale that is completed by the delivery of a borrowed security.
