| TransAlta Corporation (TransAlta) is a wholesale power generator and marketer focused on the western regions of Canada and the United States. The Company owns, operates and manages a contracted and geographically diversified portfolio of assets, and has capability in generation fuels, including coal, natural gas, hydro and renewable energy. TransAlta has two business segments: Generation and Commercial Operations & Development (COD). Approximately 70% of its capacity is contracted under government-mandated power purchase agreements or long-term contracts. On February 17, 2006, the Company acquired a 50% ownership in Wailuku River Hydroelectric L.P. On November 27, 2006, TransAlta ceased mining activities at its Centralia coal mine. During the year ended December 31, 2007, TransAlta reduced production at the plant by approximately 2,500 gigawatt hours. On February 20, 2008, the Company announced the sale of its Mexican operations to InterGen Global Ventures B.V. (InterGen). |
