The mortgage insurance business provides credit protection for mortgage lenders and other financial services companies on residential mortgage assets. The financial guaranty business provides insurance and reinsurance of municipal bonds, structured finance transactions and other credit-based risks. Its financial services business consists mainly of its minority ownership interest in Credit-Based Asset Servicing and Securitization LLC. The mortgage insurance segment provides credit-related insurance coverage, principally through private mortgage insurance, and risk management services to mortgage lending institutions. Financial guaranty insurance provides an unconditional and irrevocable guaranty to the holder of a financial obligation of payment of principal and interest when due. |
