| HealthSouth Corporation (HealthSouth) is a provider of inpatient rehabilitative healthcare services in the United States. It operates inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and long-term acute care hospitals, and provides treatment on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. As of December 31, 2007, the Company operated 94 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, of which HealthSouth is the sole owner of 66 hospitals. It retains a 50% to 97.5% ownership in the remaining 28 jointly owned hospitals. As of December 31, 2007, it operated six long-term acute care hospitals, 60 outpatient rehabilitation satellites located within or near its hospitals, and 25 licensed, hospital-based home health agencies. On May 1, 2007, the Company sold its outpatient rehabilitation division to Select Medical Corporation. On June 29, 2007, HealthSouth sold its surgery centers division to an affiliate of Texas Pacific Group. HealthSouth sold its diagnostic division to an affiliate of The Gores Group on July 31, 2007. |
