Pilgrim's Pride Corp. is a producer of poultry in both the United States and Mexico. In the United States, the Company produces both prepared and fresh chicken and turkey, while in Mexico, it exclusively produces fresh chicken. Through vertical integration, Pilgrim's Pride controls the breeding, hatching and growing of chickens and turkeys and the processing, preparation, packaging and sale of its product lines. The Company is the successor to a partnership founded in 1946 as a retail feed store. Pilgrim's Pride grew through both internal growth and various acquisitions of farming operations and chicken processors. The Company has consistently applied a long-term business strategy of focusing its growth efforts on the higher-value, higher-margin prepared foods products. Accordingly, its sales efforts have traditionally been targeted to the foodservice industry, principally chain restaurants and food processors. |
