| China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited, formerly China Unicom Limited, is an investment holding company. Together with its subsidiaries, the Company is engaged in the cellular business of global system for mobile (GSM) in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China through China Unicom Corporation Limited, the provision of international and domestic long distance calls, data and Internet services, and other related telecommunication value-added businesses. As to its cellular business, the Company is a mobile telecommunications operator in the People's Republic of China. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company operated in four segments: GSM Business, code division multiple access (CDMA) Business, Data and Internet Business, and Long Distance Business. In October 2008, the Company completed the disposal of its CDMA business. In October 2008, China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited announced its merger with China Netcom Group Corporation (Hong Kong) Limited. |
