About Colgate University
Colgate University is a highly selective liberal arts institution distinguished by the dedication of its 272 full-time faculty-scholars and a commitment to undergraduate research, off-campus study programs, sustainable practices, and residential education. Its curriculum offers 52 majors, including many interdisciplinary and cultural areas of study. With its faculty expertise and commitment to undergraduates, Colgate excels in preparing students for a wide range of careers in evolving professions, graduate and professional school, and civic leadership.
Passion for the Climb: The Campaign for Colgate is a transformational effort that has made university history. Significantly exceeding its original $400 million goal, the campaign has expanded Colgate’s financial aid resources, grown its endowment and annual fund, helped implement its vision for residential education, and furthered its interdisciplinary approach to liberal arts education.
Every Friday the 13th is Colgate Day. Colgate was founded in 1819 by 13 men with $13 and 13 prayers. The number has played an important part in university lore ever since. Colgate Day gives university community members worldwide a chance to celebrate their Colgate spirit and their triskaidekaphilia. As groups, they gather for parties, performances, and sporting events. As individuals, they post photos and best wishes via the university’s social networking channels — on Friday, April 13, 2012, #ColgateDay was a trending topic on Twitter.
