The New York Stock Exchange hosts executives from this year’s AIDS Walk New York’s top corporate sponsors who will ring the Opening Bell to commence the ten-day countdown to the 27th annual AIDS Walk New York – the world’s largest AIDS fundraising event. The landmark fundraising event will take place on Sunday, May 20, and will raise millions of dollars for GMHC—in its 30th year-and 41other important tri-state area AIDS service organizations. These vital funds allow GMHCand its community partners tocontinue providing food, housing, medical care, and much more to people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as vital prevention work that reaches hundreds of thousands throughout the tri-state area.
AIDS Walk New York corporate support achieved yet a new record level this year, anchored by its Presenting Sponsor, New York drugstore chain Duane Reade, a subsidiary of Walgreens (NYSE: WAG). As part of the partnership, Duane Reade is selling special $1 paper red-ribbon pinups in its more than 250 New York metropolitan area stores between April 9 and May 20. The Duane Reade Foundation and the Duane Reade in-store pinup sales program have already raised more than $300,000 for this year’s AIDS Walk. Duane Reade’s total sponsorship of AIDS Walk New York has already surpassed one million dollars as of this past year, which is yet another unprecedented milestone for the event.
Premier Sponsors include Bristol-Myers Squibb and Delta Air Lines. Grand Sponsors include Bloomberg, CBS 2, and Gap Inc. Principal Sponsors are Barclays Capital, Stanley and Fiona Druckenmiller, and The Village Voice. Additional guests at The Opening Bell will be present from AIDS Walk sponsors Deutsche Bank, Empire BlueCross Blue Shield, PepsiCo, PwC, Target, and UBS.
The 10k (6.2-mile) AIDS Walk route begins and ends in Central Park, and more than 45,000 participants are expected to attend.
