NYSE Hosts “Movers and Changers Forum” with MTV
In conjunction with NYSE Euronext's sponsorship of Global Entrepreneurship Week and in partnership with MTV, we will host a signature activity entitled “Movers and Changers Forum” at the NYSE on November 16, 2010.
Michelle Caruso Cabrera of CNBC hosts a panel discussion comprised of Nick Cannon, CEO/Founder TeenNick Entertainment, David Karp, Founder of Tumblr, Charlie Kim, Founder and CEO of Next Jump, Susan Smith Ellis, Founder and CEO of (RED). These leading entrepreneurs will speak about their biggest influences, taking their ideas to the next level, and resources they used to achieve their dreams.
Movers and Changers Forum
mtvU and the NYSE unveiled the first-ever “Movers & Changers” competition in 2009. The panel of judges included a mix of top business leaders and entrepreneurs including Blake Mycoskie, founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS Shoes; Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus; Stephen Hanson, Founder and President of BR Guest Restaurant Group; and Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group. After a tight presentation from the finalists, the judges chose Tulane University’s Nic Lagatta, Shea Shelton and Jay Zhao as their grand prize winner. Their “Wet Tea” business idea was to raise social awareness, foster community involvement and provide monetary support for the preservation and reconstruction for the Gulf Coast Wetlands. For each box of tea sold, the group’s plan included planting one baby cypress, while also vowing to work with local state and non-profit entities to help support communities in South Louisiana through hands-on wetlands restoration.
Movers & Changers Competition
In addition to the Forum, NYSE Euronext and mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, launched "Movers & Changers," a nationwide search to discover young entrepreneurs advancing social change. Finalists will be featured a short film series, and have the opportunity to both ring the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange, and win the ultimate prize of $25,000 seed money.
