Donovan scored three of the U.S. team’s five goals, including the goal against Algeria – “the goal heard around the world” – and the score-tying penalty kick against Ghana that forced the game into extra time. Bob Bradley led the U.S. to a first place finish in group play in the World Cup for the first time in 80 years.
