Aflac Duck
Ten years ago, a successful but little known supplemental insurance company based in Columbus, Georgia introduced itself to the world via a fun but frequently frustrated spokesfowl. Since then, the Aflac Duck has entered the iconosphere of advertising, joining the Green Giant, the Pillsbury Doughboy, and Snap, Crackle & Pop as light, fanciful and ubiquitous corporate face. The Aflac Duck has been the punch line of late-night comedians, a featured cameo in blockbuster movies, an annual Christmas collectible at Macy's and a wildly popular player on Facebook. Lately, the Aflac Duck has been busy with a new marketing initiative to reach beyond sheer celebrity to help explain that Aflac quickly pays its customers cash when they are sick or hurt to spend however they want.
