The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), founded in 1824, is a volunteer organisation and recognised service provider that operates at sea and in the areas monitored by the Dutch Coast Guard.
The KNRM has a national network of 42 lifeboat stations along the coast, and navigators at sea anywhere in the world can contact the KNRM’s Radio Medical Service. The KNRM has a fleet of 70 lifeboats, 19 coastal service vehicles, 14 watertight launching vehicles, and 45 boathouses and personnel accommodations. 1,100 volunteers work for the rescue organisation in various capacities.
Cees van Duyvendijk (1946) became a member of the managing board of the KNRM in November 2004, and in September 2006 he was appointed chairman of the managing board. The transition to the supervisory board took place under his management.
