About Camp Nejeda
In 1958, Camp Nejeda was founded by a group of physicians and parents who understood the necessity of diabetes education for youth with type 1 diabetes. Today, Camp Nejeda is the tri-state area’s only full-summer residential camp for children with type 1 diabetes and one of only ten in the country. The camp’s child-friendly environment encourages hands-on learning so that children and teens can practice new skills and learn how diabetes works in their own bodies. The camp’s onsite team of nurses, doctors and dieticians serve as coaches to keep campers safe during their stay, field questions, raise questions and generally involve campers in understanding the role of diet, exercise and insulin in their day-to-day lives.
Camp Nejeda sits on a beautiful 72 acre property surrounding a seven-acre lake in Stillwater, New Jersey. Campers stay in rustic cabins, dine in a modern dining hall, and enjoy traditional camp activities such as archery, swimming, boating, arts & crafts, field trips and cookouts, hiking, and campfires. The camp offers distinct sessions for younger campers, older campers, and families.
The Camp Nejeda Foundation is an independent non-profit organization that relies on charitable support to operate Camp Nejeda and help children with diabetes live happier, healthier lives. Camp Nejeda is accredited by the American Camp Association, which evaluates over 300 standards for health, safety, and program quality. The camp is fully licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and is an affiliate of the Diabetes & Education Camping Association (DECA). For more information on Camp Nejeda’s programs, visit Camp Nejeda's website at www.campnejeda.org or contact the Camp Nejeda Foundation at PO Box 156, Stillwater, NJ 07875, e-mail information@campnejeda.org, or call (973) 383-2611.
Camp Nejeda currently is engaged in a fundraising challenge for much-needed capital improvements. If the camp can raise $150,000 by June 1, The Bolger Foundation of Ridgewood, New Jersey will make a matching gift of $150,000. (Source: Camp Nejeda Foundation)
