ABOUT U. S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION:
As Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security celebrates its 6th anniversary, CBP continues to meet the demands of securing our nation’s borders while facilitating the flow of trade to promote economic recovery.  The country’s economic future relies on the security and facilitation of cargo arriving at its ports and CBP has implemented a measured strategy that uses its resources in the most effective manner without disrupting the flow of trade.

CBP is one of the Department of Homeland Security’s largest and most complex components, with a priority mission of keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. The agency is also responsible for securing and facilitating trade and travel while enforcing hundreds of U.S. regulations, including immigration and drug laws.

Within the Department of Homeland Security, CBP protects our nation’s borders from terrorism, human and drug smuggling, illegal migration, and agricultural pests while simultaneously facilitating the flow of legitimate travel and trade.  Nearly 52,000 CBP employees work in a variety of ways to secure the nation’s borders both at and between the official ports of entry. Employees continually incorporate the core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity into their actions. (Source: U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
