Long Island Youth Mentoring
Long Island Youth Mentoring began in 1981 under the name of Long Island Youth Guidance. They were initially a program of Long Island Youth For Christ. Youth for Christ is a local chapter of an evangelical national ministry that shares the same name. In 1981, Long Island Youth For Christ started a new mentoring division of their ministry with a desire to minister to children who do not normally do well in group settings. The targeted children were those who act out or those who are friendless. Hence the start of a one on one mentoring ministry to troubled kids.
