Russell L. Goings:
It was only 40 years ago that Russell L. Goings brought a group of African American entrepreneurs to meet with Wall Street firms to develop black businesses. What came out of that meeting was the development of Essence Magazine, Uniworld Advertising and a number of BE 100 Companies. His efforts helped spur new generations of African American entrepreneurs and became the launching pad for many black businesses. Mr. Goings, a former professional linebacker, is also a founder and the first chairman of the black women’s publication, Essence Magazine.
