OppenheimerFunds/NFTE National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge
On Thursday, October 23rd 35 students from around the country will vie for financial awards at the OppenheimerFunds/NFTE National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge, presented by Kathryn W. Davis.  The first place winner will walk away with $10,000 in seed capital to fund their business venture or use to further their education goals.  The competition will take place at the Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway, in New York City.  All of the competing students were first and second place winners in their local NFTE-sponsored regional high school business plan competitions.

From phone recharging vending machines, to custom video production, to personalized poetry, to a photosensitive football helmet visor, these students work with their teachers and a group of mentors from OppenheimerFunds, Inc., and other companies all year long to develop revenue generating businesses.  They will have the opportunity to showcase their business savvy at the third annual competition presented by NFTE before a prestigious panel of judges from business, philanthropy and sports.

The panel of judges includes:
David Fialkow, Founder, General Catalyst
Wyc Grousbeck, Owner, Boston Celtics
Kay Koplovitz, Founder USA Network
David Pfeffer, Chief Financial Officer, OppenheimerFunds, Inc.
Ralph Schlosstein, Co-Founder, BlackRock
Tom Scott, Co-Founder, Nantucket Nectars

The master of ceremonies for the evening competition will be John V. Murphy, Chairman and CEO of OppenheimerFunds, Inc.

A leader for 20 years in its field, NFTE provides students in low-income communities with hands-on training in how to launch their own businesses. Through the process, students begin to see the relevance of learning math and reading as real-life essentials.   Compelling evidence from researchers at Harvard University indicates that youth who are taught about entrepreneurship show a positive change in attitude and strong success orientation, and are more likely to be focused on academic and professional achievements and aspirations and leadership. NFTE's goal is to give young people the skills and confidence to unlock their true potential, so they find their own pathways to prosperity.
