"We are honored to welcome His Excellency Aníbal Cavaco Silva to the New York Stock Exchange," said NYSE Euronext CEO Duncan Niederauer. "Lisbon and Portugal are an important part of NYSE Euronext and Portugal is very much a part of our present and our future."

"Stock exchanges play a central role in global markets. Today's visit to the New York Stock Exchange, operated by NYSE Euronext, which also owns and operates the stock market in Lisbon, was very interesting, especially during these turbulent times in the financial markets," said President of the Portuguese Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva. "Portugal is indeed a key player in trade and financial markets. Its affiliation with the world's leading, most diversified and most global stock exchange group supports our country's trade, economic and business ties with the international economy, especially in Portuguese speaking countries like Angola, Brazil and Mozambique."

"We look forward to expanding our global footprint within the Portuguese Republic and the prospect of listing additional companies from the region on our markets in the U.S. and Europe," said Miguel Athayde Marques, NYSE Euronext Executive Vice President and Head of Indices.

NYSE Euronext markets are home to 55 listed issuers from Portugal with a total global market capitalization of approximately 158 billion euros (233.3 billion dollars) (as of Aug. 31, 2008).
