Star of “Trading Spaces” and Operation Backpack spokesperson Paige Davis and Rachel Weinstein, Director of Communications and Development, Operation Backpack, visit the NYSE. In honor of the occasion, actress Paige Davis and guests of Operation Backpack ring The Closing Bell®, joined by youth volunteers.

Paige Davis, known to TV audiences for her work on "Trading Spaces," has appeared on Broadway as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Ms. Davis has been involved with Operation Backpack for the past four years. Paige and numerous teen and corporate volunteers have been unloading dozens of Fed Ex Trucks and stuffing thousands of backpacks since Tuesday evening, August 19th, 2008 at 345 Park Ave South. At the conclusion the week, over 40 homeless shelters will pick up and deliver the fully loaded backpacks to its young residents getting ready for the new school year.
“Operation Backpack”
Over 9,000 families including 11,000 school-age children reside in the New York City homeless shelter system. Many of these children will go back to school in September without basic supplies. Now in its 5th year, Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack works with more than 70 companies to hold back-to-school drives, encouraging employees to collect and fill backpacks. Storefronts and City Councilpersons provide Official Drop Locations, enabling the public to donate backpacks. FedEx donates their time and talent by transporting all the supplies and backpacks that have been collected to our sort location. This year, children from several public and private schools hosted fundraising drives and filled more than 250 filled backpacks, before this year's campaign even kicked off. This year’s goal with even more public and corporate support is to give all 11,000 children a new, filled backpack. (Source: Operation Backpack)
