The Wall Street Shootout – a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, scheduled for May 3 at Manhattan ’s Hunter College – gathers teams from top New York City firms, whose entry fees fund PCA’s efforts to provide youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building sports experience.

About Positive Coaching Alliance
PCA (www.PositiveCoach.org) is a Stanford University-based national non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that youth and high school sports provide a positive, character-building experience for youth athletes and their families. Thompson, who founded the organization after 10 years as director of the Public and Global Management Programs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, in 2004 was named an Ashoka Fellow for his social entrepreneurship in starting the PCA Movement.

As part of the commemorative events marking the Wall Street Shootout, Thompson will ring the Closing Bell at the NYSE, along with Deloitte LLP executives Robert E. Walley, Principal, Capital Markets; and Kenneth S. Clinchy, Deputy Managing Principal, Northeast Region.

Deloitte is a long-time supporter of Positive Coaching Alliance, entering teams in PCA’s fundraising basketball tournaments and sponsoring PCA’s National Youth Sports Awards and Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Program for high school athletes. New York Stock Exchange also provides critical support to PCA through sponsorship of the Wall Street Shootout, which enables this fundraising opportunity.

Founded as a non-profit within the Stanford University Athletic Department in 1998, Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) has the mission of “transforming youth sports so sports can transform youth.”  To that end, PCA has conducted roughly 6,000 live group workshops nationwide for more than 300,000 youth and high school sports leaders, coaches, parents and athletes.  Workshop attendees have helped create a positive, character-building youth sports environment for more than 3 million youth athletes.

PCA’s partnership network includes more than 1,100 youth sports organizations, cities and schools. In 2008, PCA will conduct roughly 1,500 live, group workshops across the U.S. , while assisting thousands of other individuals via online workshops at www.PositiveCoach.org.

PCA workshops train coaches to be Double-Goal Coaches®, whose first goal is winning and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports. PCA sports parent workshops cultivate “Second-Goal Parents,” who focus on life lessons through sports. PCA student-athlete workshops produce “Triple-Impact Competitors,” who work to improve themselves, their teammates, and their sport as a whole.

PCA has the support of elite coaches and athletes on a National Advisory Board (http://www.positivecoach.org/advisoryboard.aspx), including National Spokesperson and Los Angeles Lakers Coach Phil Jackson and Boston Celtics Coach  Doc Rivers .
