Seth Wescott
On Feb. 16, Seth Wescott became the first snowboardcross champion in Olympic history earning a gold medal.  Wescott rose to the international snowboard cross (SBX) ranks in 2004-2005 when he won gold at the 2005 World Championships. Maine's 29-year-old Seth Wescott is the reigning world champion in men's snowboard cross, and a seven-time XGames medalist.

In the final at the Torino Games, Wescott trailed Slovakia's Radoslav Zidek halfway down the course but made a sly move, passing Zidek on a banked turn, holding onto the lead over the last few jumps. At the finish, Wescott celebrated by wrapping himself in the American flag used in the funeral ceremony for his grandfather, a veteran of World War II.

A longtime advocate for snowboarding on the international scene, Wescott has now come full circle.  Gold medal in hand, he hopes to inspire future Olympic hopefuls to pursue his sport.  Seth will be hosting a series of snowboardcross instructional clinics for kids, called the “Visa Seth Wescott Ride With Me SBX Tour” that will help grow the  popularity and exposure for snowboardcross. The first event took place last weekend at Sugarloaf in Maine.
