NYSE Arca Market Makers
NYSE Arca provides a competitive marketplace for all participants, including liquidity providers. By adopting a system of competing Market Makers, interacting with orders in an all-electronic arena, NYSE Arca provides speed, efficiency and consistency to all order handling.
A Market Maker is a NYSE Arca Equity Trading Permit (ETP) holder that acts as a Market Maker for a security. Each Market Maker must apply in writing to register as a Market Maker Authorized Trader (MMAT). After authorization is obtained, the trader will be able to perform market making activities on behalf of his/her Market Maker.
Lead Market Maker
NYSE Arca has established the role of Lead Market Makers for stocks and ETFs with a primary listing on the exchange. Lead Market Makers have defined obligations in addition to incentives such as the ability to interact with Directed Orders.
