Methodology
In 2008, Time Inc. Content Solutions commissioned Opinion Research Corporation, an independent global strategy and market research and consulting organization, to conduct the NYSE Euronext 2009 CEO Report, the fourth annual survey of CEOs of listed companies. A questionnaire was administered via the Internet, telephone and mail in February and March 2008, generating 254 responses from leaders in 18 countries and 20 industries.

Of the total, 184 responses came from the U.S.; 39 from Europe and the U.K.; 16 from Latin America; 10 from the Asia-Pacific region; and five from Canada and Bermuda. Some 26 percent of companies had $3 billion or more in market capitalization; 34 percent had $1 billion to less than $3 billion; and the rest had less than $1 billion. The median respondent reported tenure of seven years, but 22 percent had held their CEO posts for less than three years and 25 percent for 10 or more years.
