On August 10, Verizon joins the Common Ground Alliance (CGA) to highlight 811 Day, which is August 11 (8/11). This year marks the 5th anniversary of 811 -- the free, nationwide call-before-you-dig number -- established by the Federal Communications Commission to provide an easy and free method for protecting underground utility lines.
A recent report released by the CGA has determined an underground utility line is damaged during digging projects every three minutes nationwide. Every digging project, no matter how large or small, warrants a call to 811 because striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages.
