On Oct. 30, NYSE Euronext (NYSE Euronext: NYX) announced that it had acquired a strategic, 1%, equity position in Bovespa Holding, the owner of the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange, in its IPO, for around $90 million in cash.
Bovespa is Latin America's largest stock exchange, accounting for nearly 70% of the region's trade volume, offering favorable opportunities for the future. The Bovespa investment is consistent with NYSE Euronext's corporate objectives and global growth strategy.
NYSE Euronext has a long-term relationship with Bovespa, in which Bovespa has been running on NSC, Euronext's single electronic trading system, since July 1997. NYSE Euronext has long been a privileged listing and trading venue for Brazilian companies.
Currently, NYSE Euronext lists 32 companies from Brazil whose total global market capitalization is $753 billion dollars.
