| Unitil Corporation (Unitil) is a public utility holding company. Unitil's principal business is the retail distribution of electricity in the southeastern seacoast and capital city areas of New Hampshire and the retail distribution of both electricity and natural gas in the greater Fitchburg area of north central Massachusetts. Unitil has two distribution utility subsidiaries: Unitil Energy System's, Inc. (UES), which operates in New Hampshire and Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light Company (FG&E), which operates in Massachusetts (collectively referred to as the retail distribution utilities). Unitil's retail distribution utilities serve approximately 100,000 electric customers and 15,100 natural gas customers in their franchise areas. In December 2008, Unitil completed the purchase of Northern Utilities, Inc, (Northern) and Granite State Gas Transmission, Inc. (Granite), from NiSource Inc. |
