| Mobile TeleSystems OJSC is a provider of mobile cellular communications services in Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Armenia and Ukraine. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company had a subscriber base of 91.33 million (64.63 million in Russia, 18.12 million in Ukraine, 5.65 million in Uzbekistan, 0.93 million in Turkmenistan and 2.02 million in Armenia). In addition to standard voice services, the Company offers its subscribers value added services, including voice mail, short message service (SMS), general packet radio service (GPRS), augmented by enhanced data rates for GSM evolution (EDGE), high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), and various SMS- and GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA-based information and entertainment services (including multi media message service (MMS)). In October 2009, Sistema completed the sale of its 50.91% stake in Komstar - Obyedinennye TeleSistemy OAO to Mobile TeleSystems.
