| Kirby Corporation operates inland tank barges and towing vessels, transporting petrochemicals, black oil products, refined petroleum products and agricultural chemicals throughout the United States inland waterway system. It also owns and operates four ocean-going barge and tug units transporting dry-bulk commodities in United States coastwise trade. Through the diesel engine services segment, it provides after-market service for diesel engines and reduction gears. It has two segments: marine transportation and diesel engine services. On February 24, 2011, it purchased 21 inland and offshore tank barges and 15 inland towboats and offshore tugboats from Enterprise Marine Services LLC. On February 9, 2011, it purchased from Kinder Morgan Petcoke, L.P. In April 2011, it acquired United Holdings LLC. In July 2011, it acquired K-Sea Transportation Partners L.P. In December 2011, it purchased three coastwise tank barge and tug units. |
