| El Paso Electric Company is a public utility engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in an area of approximately 10,000 square miles in west Texas and southern New Mexico. The Company also serves a wholesale customer in Texas and from time to time a customer in the Republic of Mexico. El Paso Electric owns or has ownership interests in six electrical generating facilities providing it with a net dependable generating capability of approximately 1,503 megawatt. During the year ended December 31, 2007, the Company's energy sources consisted of approximately 43% nuclear fuel, 28% natural gas, 7% coal, 22% purchased power and less than 1% generated by wind turbines. |
