| Covanta Holding Corporation (Covanta) is an owner and operator of infrastructure for the conversion of waste to energy (known as energy-from-waste (EfW)), as well as other waste disposal and renewable energy production businesses. The Company conducts all of its operations through subsidiaries, which are engaged predominantly in the businesses of waste and energy services. Covanta has one segment, which is Americas and consists of waste and energy services operations primarily in the United States and Canada. In March 2011, the Company completed the sale of its interests in the Quezon coal-fired electric generation facility located in the Philippines to Electricity Generating PCL. In February 2010, the Company announced that it has completed the acquisition of the North American Energy-from-Waste business of Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp., a subsidiary of Veolia Environnement. |
